Soapy Fun

Things are hopping around here.  I’m staying busy with lots of different soap projects.

Remember my kitchen counter from some time ago?  Well, I’ve been doing a so-so job of keeping it clear, but the last couple of weeks it’s been regularly covered with soap.  It looks pretty much like the second and third pictures you'll see if you click on the kitchen counter link.

It’s a beautiful sight to me, but it makes it kind of hard to get any other kind of work done in the kitchen.

Here’s a peek at some of what I’ve been working on over the last couple of weeks, aka my excuse for having super-messy counters.

Donut Soaps with Pink Frosting

Piggy Soaps

Flip Flops in Coral and Blue

Bacon Lip Balm

Butterfly Soaps

Chocolate Fudge Donuts

Making Lists

Are you a list maker?  If you are, some of this will make perfect sense to you.  If you are not a list maker, I will ask you this.  How do you do it?  How do you keep track of what needs done, what’s being done and what’s been done?

I have many lists.  I have sheets of paper all over the place in not so neat piles.  Plural.  I have daily lists, weekly lists, monthly lists, and annual lists.  I have must do lists, hope to do lists, and lists of things I want to do but may never get done.  Whew.  I’m a little overwhelmed just thinking about all those lists.

In addition to my numerous lists on paper, I have lists on the computer, and I have a couple of planner apps on my iPad that let me make lists.  I’m in the process of switching from one app to another on the iPad.  You know why?  Because the first one wouldn’t let me cross things off once they were done.  And it didn’t keep track of what had been done.  I get a certain amount of satisfaction out of crossing things off my lists.  And sometimes when I do something that’s not on a list, it gets added just so I can cross it off!

Here are a few things on my soap to-do-in-the-near-future list.

Wrap and Label Flip Flop Soaps
          Make Lotion Bars
          Make Lip Balms
          Make Shaving Soap
          Make Charcoal Soap

Do you have any helpful tips for effective list making, keeping track of lists, completing to-do lists, etc.?

Any funny stories about lists?  I’d love it if you would post your thoughts here.

The tip "get off the computer and do something" is already being taken under advisement.

New Lip Balm Flavors

When I make lip balms, I tend to make lots at once.  Then I add the labels and shrink tubes, fire up the heat gun and seal them up.  Here’s a picture of a few lip balms waiting to be sealed.  I have tried a few different shrink bands for the lip tubes.  My favorite ones are  from Bramble Berry

After the sealing is complete and my hand that holds the lip balms as I seal them is numb from the heat, I put the ready-to-go lip balms away in alphabetical order.  That makes it easy to find the ones I want and easy to see what needs to be replenished.

Here are a couple of pictures showing how I organize them.  Oops!  I must have forgotten to sing the alphabet song as I organized the ones in the second photo.

Here are a few new flavors recently added to the plethora of flavors already offered.

Blackberry Grape

Cinnamon Candy

French Silk Pie

Fresh Brewed Coffee

Fresh Whipped Cream

Mocha Frappuccino

Pineapple Slices

Wild Cherry Candy (formerly named Wild Cherry)

You can find lip balms at the SoapArt Website or on Etsy.

All Things Bacon Festival Draws 5000 Bacon Enthusiasts

This past weekend, the 5th Annual All Things Bacon Festival was held in Des Moines, Iowa.

You can read a short report on it here http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/46443423/ns/local_news-des_moines_ia/t/best-bacon-sold-out-crowd-packs-fairgrounds-event-celebrating-all-things-bacon/

I wasn’t able to attend, but from the news report, it appears they had a full house.  From the newsclip I saw on TV, it looked like a fun time.

Maybe next year I can take my bacon flavored lip balms and share some bacony goodness without the calories.  They don’t contain any bacon, but they do smell just like bacon. Yum! Bacon without the fat and calories.

Here’s what one happy SoapArt customer said about these little gems, “good stuff! My husband and brother loved the bacon lip balm and will be wanting more! Thanks ( I do hope that any stray dogs don't chase them when they're wearing it! )”
