Caramel Apple Crunch

Doesn’t that sound like the perfect fall fragrance/flavor?

I made some wax melts in that fragrance.

They smell so delicious I decided to make the real thing! 

 

This Caramel Apple Crunch dessert showed up on Pinterest. 

You can find the recipe on the blog called My Wooden Spoon.

I couldn’t find Caramel Apple pie filling, so I improvised.

 

Ingredients

 

I dumped the pie filling into a 9x13 pan.

Then I poured some Caramel Ice Cream Sauce over it.

 

Next, I sprinkled the cake mix on top.

 

I added some more caramel sauce.

 

Then I poured the butter over the cake mix.

Into the oven it went.

I waited 50 minutes before taking it out.

We added cool whip and dug in.

 

It’s very rich.

It’s extremely sweet.

I used almost half the bottle this time.
I think half of that would have been enough.

Next time, I’ll back off the caramel.

Just a touch.

Maybe.

 

You can always top it with caramel sauce if you want more.

Honey Almond Soap

When I first smelled this fragrance, I was not a fan.

But it grew on me.

Out of the bottle, it’s not impressive.

It’s very strong.

Then I made lotion bars with it.

The scent became very appealing!

Then I made some wax melts with it.

Amazing!

A friend requested soap from it.

I was eager to dig in.

I made a double batch.

One loaf has a dark cocoa line in it.

The other loaf has a honeycomb pattern on top.

If you are a soap maker,

you might notice that the soap was at heavy trace

when I smushed it into the molds.

It was the consistency of cookie dough!

If you’re not a soap maker,

the way to tell is by the little spaces or holes in the soap.

Both smell delicious!

This Honey Almond is just what the name says.

There are no undertones of amaretto.

It’s a very sweet smell.

I love it in wax melts too.

Wax Melts

Yesterday I made wax melts in several new  fragrances.

If I have a little bit left over after pouring,

I save it for my personal stash.

I’m pretty sure I’ll never run out.

I like using soy because it’s natural, clean, and easy to clean up.

Back to making the wax melts.

Once I start making them,

it’s hard to know where to draw the line.

I just want to keep going, making more and more fragrances.

 

Ah, the life of a fragrance addict.

 

Yesterday I stopped after the 11^th fragrance.

I also tested different ways to package the wax melts.

I typically use waffle blocks.

I like them because they are different than what I usually see.

The waffle blocks are scored into six sections.

The sections are easy to break apart.

Instead of six cubes, the block is flatter.

It has a waffle look to it.

They are convenient to use.

They hold two ounces of wax by weight.

They work especially well for creating your own fragrance blends.

Two or three will fit in a plug-in type warmer.

Just think of the fragrance combinations you can create!

I packaged some of the melts in one ounce tubs.

The tub holds 2 ounces of water by volume.

But it only holds about 1.5 ounces of wax by weight.

I filled them with one ounce of wax to make them easy to use.

The wax can be popped out right into your wax warmer.

I also made some melts in the traditional cube type packaging.

This is the form that I see most often.

It has six cubes per pack that break apart

(not quite as easily as the waffles in my opinion).

The cube package holds a total of 3 ounces of wax.

Wax Waffle Results for Bramble Berry’s S.O.A.P Panel Fragrance Testing

I am still having a blast testing the Bramble Berry fragrances.  Thanks, Bramble Berry (www.BrambleBerry.com) for this great opportunity!

My most recent testing adventure was with Wax Waffles aka wax melts or tarts.  I used 100% soy wax and fragranced at 10%.  The fragrances didn’t change much once in the wax.  I colored quite heavily, so if the fragrances did change color, it doesn’t show – yet.  I thought about leaving them uncolored, but if you've been reading, you know that I am addicted to color.

Here’s a very uninteresting photo of the wax waffles so you can see the colors.  I'll show you a better picture of a wax waffle toward the end of the post.

Here are very short summaries of what I smelled once the fragrance spent some time in the wax.

1.    I smelled fruit and green; in the wax there was more fruit than green.

2.    This one still smells like citrus to me.  I didn’t smell any grapefruit dry down in the wax like I did from the bottle and in the melt and pour soap.

3.    This one is just a nice fruity woody blend in the wax.

4.    I still like the name Open Window for this fragrance.  I still think of fabric softener too.  In the wax, I sensed some sort of a green/grassy note.  I can’t quite put my finger on what it is.  It’s not a sweet grass, but a minty-grassy smell.

5.    The punch is back in the wax melts.  All I got was fruit punch when I smelled the wax.

6.    This one is Pina Colada to me in everything now, even straight out of the bottle.

7.    I get mostly gardenia in the wax melts.  The green I smelled in the Cold Process didn’t seem to be there.  It’s delightfully sweet to me, but (I hate to say it) may be a bit too florally sweet for those who aren’t big floral fans.

8.    I still have no clue what this is, but it’s sweet and wonderful in the wax melts.  I’m still surprised at how much I like this one given it was not love at first sniff.

9.    In the wax melts, I get a Lemon Meringue Pie effect.  Delicious!

10. This one is still alluring in the wax melts, and is still my favorite.  Rich, dark and sultry.

I’ll post my overall ratings for the fragrances in a day or two.
