Baby Feet!

During the school year I get to take care of babies 0 – 12 months old while their mothers are in Bible study.  It’s such a fun and rewarding part of my week.  I just love snuggling those precious babies.  During the summer, I always go through a bit of baby withdrawal.

Hence, these cute little baby feet.

These baby feet lotion bars come in several colors and in three fragrances.

Baby Powder: Smells like baby powder with a hint of baby wash

Lavender Chamomile: Smells clean and baby fresh
Sweet Baby: A fresh blend of vanilla, sugar, peach and violet.

Of course, they can be left unscented, or they can be scented with any other fragrances I have.  I just think these three are the most baby-like of my collection.

These would make a wonderful gift for the new baby.

They’d also be cute for favors at a baby shower. 

Most importantly, I get to enjoy the wonderful baby scents as I’m making them.  It’s not as good as holding real babies, but it will get me through ‘til it’s time to hold the babies again.

Goat Milk Soap Mango Swirl

I love goat milk soap.  My shower usually has a bar of cold processed clove soap and a bar of cold processed goat milk soap.  I made this soap with myself in mind.  I thought it was a good time to experiment with color and swirls.  I may have gone a little wild.

I used a Bramble Berry fragrance called Mango Mango.  It’s very sweet and seemed to be a good fit with goat milk soap.  I left part of the soap uncolored, and colored the remaining portions with neon orange and neon green.

First I poured in a layer of uncolored soap. 

Next I poured the green colored soap over the white, sort of in rows. 

 Next I added orange soap in rows between and on top of the green rows.

I used a chopstick to make feathery swirls throughout the soap.

Then I plopped some orange on top and swirled a bit. 

I used the chopstick to try to make hearts, but only some of them turned out.

Goat milk soap just gets better over time.  I just finished up the last bar of a batch I made in 2008.  It was even more wonderful in 2012 than it was in 2008.  I love the soft, creamy feel that the goat milk seems to give the soap.

It’s going to be hard to wait to give this Mango Swirl a try, but then that is always the case with cold process soap.  But wait we must.  Giving the soap some time to cure before use allows the soap to get milder.  It also gets harder so that it lasts longer.

Valentine Candy Heart Glycerin Soap

I tried to resist buying the mold for these soaps.  I really did.  In fact, I resisted for at least two years.  I have way too many molds and seem to keep collecting more.  A while back, I was on a “mold moratorium”, but I still managed to find some molds I couldn’t resist.  I think the moratorium has been lifted due to constant infractions.  At any rate, more molds keep showing up in my soap room.

These little candy heart soaps turned out so cute.  And there are so many different combinations of color and fragrance that will go with them.  The soaps are designed for Valentine ’s Day, but who couldn’t use a “hugs” soap any time of year?  There.  That’s my justification for buying the mold J

The soaps are offered at www.soapartonline.com and at www.etsy.com/shop/soapart  and they come individually or in groups. 

These soaps are about 2.5” x 2.5”.  I saw molds that can be used to make soaps similar to these, but at the real-life size of the candy hearts of about a half inch across.  I think those are really cute, but they seem kind of small to me for using as soap.  I just might have to get that mold some day and try it out.

Here are pictures of some of the heart soaps I made.  The pastel ones smell like cotton candy and the red ones have a long lasting cinnamon fragrance.

ROY G BIV Soap

I love rainbows.  I also love soap.  So I just had to make a rainbow soap.  I call it ROY G BIV soap.  It’s fun to make and the house smells so good while I’m making it.  I made a full loaf each of sample size and full size bars.  Each layer has its own wonderful fragrance.  Here’s what each layer is:

Red: Cherry

Orange: Orange
Yellow: Lemon
Green: Lime
Blue: Blueberry
Indigo: Blueberry Grape
Violet: Grape Soda

The overall effect of the different scented layers is wonderful.  It can be a little tricky to make. Each layer must be poured at just the right temperature so it doesn’t melt the existing layers.  It’s also important that the already poured layers don’t harden too much before the next layer is added so the layers adhere to each other.
